Juno-nominated guitarist David Gogo has been making major waves in Europe in 2008 with the release of his latest CD Vibe on Cordova Bay/Dixiefrog Records. The album is getting rave reviews throughout Europe and features a special guest appearance by sadly departed friend and Grammy nominated guitarist Jeff Healey as well as Tom Wilson (Blackie & The Rodeo Kings).
Gogo kicked off the year with an extensive 17 date European support tour in January and February with renowned UK rockers, Wishbone Ash. The sold out tour saw the Canadian guitarist perform to enthusiastic fans in The Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany, where he made a major impression with his first single “Something Ain’t Right”, a heartfelt ballad he co-wrote with John Capek (“Rhythm of My Heart”/Rod Stewart) that was added to commercial radio throughout Germany. The press interviews and media performances were non stop throughout the tour. Gogo spent both his show days and days off dropping by radio stations and performing the single on television including, FAB-TV in Berlin, TV Munchen in Munich and KUNO’S in Hamburg, where the famous host and former owner of the famed Star Club (where the Beatles use to perform) filmed the band’s performance at Fabrik for national broadcast in March. “Vibe” was also hand picked by Dr. Manfred Bleskin, the well respected news anchor of N-TV (Germany equivalent of CNN), as one of the “Albums of The Month” featured nationally alongside Ringo Starr, Chris Rea and J.J. Cale. David and his band performed a special acoustic set in front of a live audience that was broadcast across Germany on Radio Bremen in conjunction with his one hour special “On The Tracks”. As part of the tour, Gogo also stopped in France to perform a few Cd launch shows, including a two night stand in Paris and the band was featured performing a live session at the famous Maida Vale Studios (Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd) in London for BBC Radio 2 in the UK in January 2008.
In late March, Gogo returned to perform a sizzling two week headline tour that saw him back in Denmark to play for new found fans and in the Benelux, where he topped the bill on the Bierbeek Blues D’Up Festival and created a buzz through his widespread media appearances.
Success breeds success and legendary British guitarist, Robin Trower heard the buzz on David Gogo and invited him to support his upcoming tour in Germany April 28 – May 3, 2008. Gogo jumped at the chance to open for one of his heroes and indicated that he is “very excited to be touring with Robin Trower as a longtime fan.”
The two time Maple Blues “Guitarist of The Year” is featured in the brand new May issue of GUITAR magazine in Germany and will return to Canada to perform some select shows throughout the summer before returning to Europe in the fall for a major headline tour.
